The Brittain Electric team is seeking a best-in-class Controller willing to roll up their sleeves and exude a passion for the field!

What you will do…

  • Financial Management & Reporting
    • Oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and job cost tracking
    • Maintain accountability for meeting month-end close deadlines, ensuring timely and accurate close process
    • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and variance analyses
    • Ensure the integrity and timeliness of financial reporting in accordance with GAAP, especially related to long-term construction contracts
    • Support internal and external audits by providing documentation and analysis related to financial operations and project accounting
    • Forecast and manage cash flow to ensure adequate liquidity; improve liquidity position by reducing DSO and managing vendor payment terms
    • Supervise cash disbursements, including vendor payments, payroll, and capital expenditures 
  • Percentage-of-Completion (POC) Accounting
    • Manage revenue recognition using the percentage-of-completion method
    • Monitor and track project budgets, costs, billings, and change orders to ensure accurate margin and revenue projections
    • Collaborate with project managers to assess project progress and ensure financial forecasts are up to date
    • Reconcile WIP (Work-in-Progress) schedules and ensure accurate journal entries related to under/over billing
    • Help develop and maintain project budgets and forecasts in collaboration with operations teams
  • Other Responsibilities
    • Build strong relationships across departments to facilitate budget and project alignment
    • Coaches and mentors accounting staff, supporting their professional development
    • Ability to clearly explain complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
    • Strong written and verbal communication for reports, presentations, and team interactions.
    • Active listening to understand team needs and leadership objectives 

What you will need to succeed…

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field with 5-years of professional experience
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, financial statements, percentage-of-completion accounting, and full cycle month-end close
  • Upholds high ethical standards and ensures transparency in financial reporting
  • Experience working with ERP and construction management software and QuickBooks
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong emotional intelligence (EQ) to manage interpersonal dynamics with tact and problem-solving mindset
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; willingness to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience with ERP system integrations is a plus
