As a NICET-certified electrical testing, engineering, controls, and automation company, Powercor controls and engineering consultants support organizations providing expert services in electrical testing, system design, electrical engineering, systems integration, commissioning, equipment servicing, and retrofit services.

The Powercor Team is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Startup & Commissioning Technician to support the installation, functional testing, and commissioning of low and medium voltage switchgear at major data center sites. This role involves travel to job sites nationwide, interfacing directly with OEMs, contractors, and facility owners to verify system performance and document results to the highest standard.

What you will do…

•    Perform startup and functional testing of power distribution equipment: switchgear, circuit breakers,          relays, metering, and PLCs
•    Execute field tests such as:
  - Insulation resistance
  - Contact resistance
  - Current & Voltage Measurements
  - Relay operation and adjustment
•    Review and interpret electrical schematics, control, single-line, and three-line diagrams
•    Coordinate with commissioning teams, engineers, and OEM representatives to resolve issues
•    Document all testing results, redlines, and project updates clearly and professionally
•    Follow all job site safety protocols and Powercor’s internal quality procedures

What you will need to succeed…

•    3+ years of hands-on experience in electrical commissioning, startup, or field service work
•    Strong knowledge of switchgear, protective relays, and power system fundamentals
•    Proficiency using test equipment such as Megger, Omicron, or Doble
•    Ability to interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
•    Excellent problem-solving and customer-facing communication skills
•    Willing and able to travel 75–100% of the time
•    Valid driver’s license and ability to pass drug screening and background check
•    Preferred:
•    Experience with mission-critical or data center electrical systems
•    Familiarity with SCADA/PLC protocols (Modbus, Ethernet/IP, etc.)
•    OSHA 30, NFPA 70E, or NETA certification

•    Must be able to lift to 60 pounds independently; lifting from knee to shoulder heights; other lifting              required from various levels.
•    Must be able to carry and transport up to 60 pounds up to 20 feet.
•    Requires standing for extended period with frequent stretching, reaching, walking, and stooping,               pushing and/or pulling in an environment that may be cold, hot, noisy, and wet and may have fumes         or odors.

The base pay range for this position is $45.00 to $50.00 per hour. Please note that the compensation range reflects the base pay only and does not include benefits or bonuses this role may be eligible to receive. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by bona fide factors such as geographic work location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.
